Moderate earthquake rattles parts of Hawke's Bay

11:02 pm on 4 November 2018

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake has rattled parts of central Hawke's Bay.

GeoNet reports it was centred just offshore about 25km south of Hastings at a depth of 18km.

More than 1900 people registered having felt the moderate quake on its website.

John McCormack who lives southeast of Waipukurau also felt the quake.

"Just a shudder and it sort of built up to a little bit of a crescendo, but it was over very quickly. Nowhere near as strong as the double banger earthquake the other day that was centred in the middle of the North Island."

Mr McCormack said there have been several small to medium quakes in the same area in recent years.
