Fibre optic cables have come down on central Wellington streets following a car crash this morning.
The lines came down at the corner of Hunter Street and Customhouse Quay.
Traffic was being diverted, but an RNZ reporter at the scene said traffic is now flowing, with motorists driving over the lines laid out on the road.
Police said the lines appeared to have come down because of a car crash about 6am.
They first described the lines as power lines, but it has since been confirmed they are fibre optic cables.
Police and workers from telecommunications company CityLink are at the scene.
