Armed police hunting a robber have stopped and searched a bus in central Wellington this morning.
Police were deployed after the reported robbery of a person on the street in Berhampore shortly after 7am.
Initial reports suggested a weapon was used in the alleged crime, although police said the victim was not hurt in the incident.
Armed officers entered the bus after receiving a tip-off that a potentially-armed person of interest was seen to enter the bus at Adelaide Rd.
Police then stopped and entered the vehicle at Kent Terrace.
No one was arrested, and the bus was allowed to continue on its journey.
"Police spoke to a specific individual on the bus and established they were not the person being sought," a police statement said.
"Staff took time to explain to the passengers and the driver why the bus had been stopped, and they able to continue their journey shortly after."
Inquiries are continuing. Police said those on the bus who would like to speak with someone further could contact police who would put them in touch with Victim Support.
