Two people have died following a two car crash near Whangarei today.

The crash happened on State Highway One in Oakleigh, at 3.50pm.
Three other people have been taken to hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
A police spokesperson said the Serious Crash Unit would be investigating and the road would be closed for several hours.
The road is closed near Totara Road and there are diversions in place at Salmon and Springfield Roads, but this route is not suitable for heavy vehicles or campervans.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
