The armed offenders squad was on standby as police negotiated for five hours with a man at a home in Northland last night.
They responded to reports of an armed man threatening family in a home on Tavinor Road, near Whangārei, at 7pm yesterday.
Police say a 27-year-old man was taken into custody without incident at about midnight.
