The search for a man who jumped off a Lower Hutt bridge after crashing his car in the early hours of this morning has been called off.
The single-vehicle crash happened about 12:40am on the Kennedy Good Bridge in Avalon, north of Wellington.
Witnesses told police they saw the driver jump over the side of the bridge.
A helicopter was brought in to help look for the man along the river bank.
A police spokesperson said the man had been "accounted for".
