Stabbed Greymouth man a loved son and father - family

The family of a Greymouth man who was stabbed to death says he was a great father.

Cyrus Alupis, 41, was fatally stabbed in Greymouth in the early hours of Monday morning.

"Cyrus was a very loved son and a great father who loved all his children," a family spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the family was assisting police with their investigation.

Police want to talk to anyone who may have seen a young man dressed in dark clothing around Chapel Street, Willis Street, Alexander Terrace or near the Countdown supermarket in Greymouth between 1:15am and 4:45am on Monday.

They say a pair of black casual-style shoes may have been left in the area.

A 17-year-old man appeared in Greymouth District Court on Monday charged with with murder and was remanded in custody until Tuesday 21 August.
