Queenstown police have charged a man over an unprovoked assault outside the Exchange Bar early on Thursday morning.

A police spokesperson says a 23-year-old Waihi man contacted them following media coverage of the assault.
He was charged with assault with intent to injure and is due to appear in Queenstown District Court on Monday.
Police were still seeking another man over the assault and wanted to hear from anyone who has information.
