Air New Zealand is hoping a backlog of passengers, stuck at Christchurch airport due to fog, will be cleared this afternoon.
Flights in and out of Christchurch were cancelled this morning as the heavy fog blanketed parts of the city.
Seven inbound flights were cancelled and one from Auckland had to turn back.
Flights out of Christchurch to Wellington, Dunedin, Nelson and Invercargill were cancelled.
Air New Zealand said the fog was clearing and the airline was expecting to get all affected travellers to their destinations early this afternoon.
