A man has died following a single car crash on Taneatua Road near Whakatāne.

The crash closed the road between the State Highway 2 and Whitepine Bush Road intersection, but it has since re-opened.
Police are still working to formally identify the man and inform his next of kin.
The Serious Crash Unit is still investigating the cause.
