Motorists in the South Island are being urged to take extra care while driving today with ice on most of the main highways in Otago and Southland.

There's black ice on State Highway 8 between Ōmarama and Twizel and around the Lindis Pass.
There's also ice on State Highway 6 from Haast to Makarora, and State Highway 85 between Alexandra and Kyeburn.
In Southland there's black ice along State Highway 94 from Mossburn to Te Anau, and there's ice between Te Anau Downs to Gulliver River Bridge.
Motorists should also be careful along the West Coast, with ice along State Highway 7 from Springs Junction to Reefton.
