A 62-year-old tourist charged with murder after a woman's body was found at a Nelson hotel has been remanded in custody.

Police were called to the Rutherford Hotel about 9am on Friday morning, after the body of a 62-year-old woman was discovered in a hotel room.
Police said the victim was known to the man and they were both travelling on foreign passports.
The man made a brief appearance in the Nelson District Court this morning.
He was remanded without plea to appear in court again next month, and was granted continued name suppression.
Judge Richard Russell said the circumstances around the alleged offending were still to be considered.
