Police say a 14-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have been arrested over burglaries at Ormiston, Te Atatu and near the Auckland Airport between midnight and 3am.

The group were allegedly travelling in two vehicles - one of which was spotted by a police patrol vehicle in Western Springs.

The vehicle was monitored overhead by the police helicopter and was seen driving on the wrong side of the motorway several times.

As the car left the motorway in Mangere it hit a police car, causing one officer inside to suffer whiplash.

The offenders fled the scene, with one injuring his ankle as he ran off.

The group were arrested and the 21-year-old is appearing in the Manukau District Court today, with the two teenagers due to appear in the Manukau Youth Court.

Police said more charges may be laid over the incident.
