Armed offenders squad officers are searching for a man, thought to be armed, who ran down a police officer in the Far North.
The incident happened at 6.15pm on Monday in Kohukohu at the Hokianga ferry landing.
The policeman had been speaking to the man about criminal and serious driving offences when he sped off, hitting the officer in the process.
The policeman suffered cuts to his arms and legs.
Inspector Lou Alofa says the driver was seen to have a firearms bag and holster with him.
