New Zealand golfer Sir Bob Charles has ended his distinguished international career with a double bogey six on the 18th hole at Carnoustie in Scotland on Friday.

The winner of the 1963 British Open missed the British Seniors Open cut.

Sir Bob said retiring from competitive golf at the age of 74 wasn't a difficult decision.

He said he will continue to play the Legends of Golf tournaments for the next few years.
