New Zealand families will soon be able to adopt Russian orphans, following a four-year suspension.
Russian officials have granted a permit to adoption charity Inter Country Adoption New Zealand (ICANZ) to operate a programme.
Adoptions were suspended in 2006, after which the two countries began work on strengthening adoption protocols.
Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says the Government is satisfied the work has been done to ensure the process will be robust and it will continue to work with Russian officials on that.
While New Zealand is a party to the Hague Convention where it applies to international adoptions, Russia is not.
