Police have not issued any tickets for jaywalking in the past five years.
A person is deemed to be jaywalking when he or she crosses the road within 20 metres of traffic signals.
No one from Police National Headquarters has been available to explain why no tickets for the offence have been issued in recent years.
But road policing manager for Wellington, Peter Baird, says jaywalking in the capital is quite noticeable, but police efforts are being focused elsewhere.
