Part of a major South Auckland thoroughfare has been closed after a collision between a truck and a car early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the stretch of Great South Road in Papatoetoe, between Carlie Street and Allenby Road, about 5.30am.
The northbound lane of the road was closed.
Diversions were put in place but motorists were asked to avoid the area.
