The Immigration Service has deported a suspected British child-sex offender who had been living illegally in New Zealand since 2008.

Police in Hastings tracked down Matthew Paul Hamilton, 29, at a leisure activity popular with children.

Detective Inspector Ross Pinkham says he has been identified as a person of interest in an international child exploitation investigation.

Mr Hamilton was charged in Cambodia with sex offences against children in 2005, but was found not guilty.

New Zealand police don't know if he is facing any charges in Britain.
