The Desert Road, State Highway 1 in the central North Island, will close for 36 hours from Wednesday morning to allow for bridge repairs.

The Waihohonu Stream bridge was damaged by a truck crash in July last year and has been one lane since 17 February.
The closures are to allow a concrete deck to be poured, but the work is weather-dependent.
The closure will take place from 7am on Wednesday until Thursday at 7pm.
