Police appeal to Ahipara shooter to give himself up

The man believed to have fired shots at a house in the Far North town of Ahipara is still at large.

Police are appealing for him to hand himself in.

No-one was hurt in the incident in [https://www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/350719/school-lockdown-lifted-but-search-for-gunman-continues Takahe Street yesterday morning.

But a nearby school went into lockdown while armed police scoured the small town for the shooter.

Detective Sergeant Mark Dalzell said police had recovered the firearm the man was thought to have used, and his car.

He said the shooting incident was the result of a dispute between people who knew one another and police did not believe the man was a threat to the wider public.

Kaitaia police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident on Takahe Road, or had information that would help them.
