It's emerged that the police officer who shot and seriously wounded an Auckland actor last year had been out of police college for a matter of months.
The 37-year-old actor, Robert Mokaraka, has been sentenced to 400 hours' community service and 12 months' supervision for his part in the incident in Point Chevalier.
The actor pleaded guilty in April to two charges of threatening to kill a police officer or to cause grievous bodily harm, and two of assaulting a police officer.
Parts of the victim impact statements for the officers were read in the Auckland District Court on Friday.
The officer who fired the shot was 27 years old and five months out of police college.
Mokaraka's lawyer, Paul Dacre, says his client apologises to police and the public.
