A toy importer has been fined $65,000 for selling toys that broke apart, creating a choking hazard for babies.

Mega Import, which supplies Two Dollar Shops across the country, pleaded guilty in the Auckland District Court today to selling toys which did not comply with mandatory standards.
The Commerce Commission said small plastic fragments broke free from a baby buggy set and a rattle during tests.
Mega Import sold nearly 1200 units of the toys in 2016 but immediately recalled the two toys after the Commission wrote to it in late December 2016
The director of Mega Import told the Commission he had not seen the Standard.
The sentencing judge said it was a mercy that no child had been injured so far. Judge Mary-Beth Sharp also said the offending was "highly careless", but was not wilful or deliberate.
