The search for a missing teenage boy at Christchurch's Sumner Beach has been called off for the night.

Police were called to the beach at 3.20pm today.
The boy, who is reported to be missing, is 14 years old.
A helicopter and Sumner Surf Life Saving Club were initially involved in the search, but have since come back to shore.
Police remain at the beach and are speaking to family.
A police spokesperson said they would reassess continuing the search tomorrow morning.
