A man has died after being stabbed at a holiday park in Kaikōura last night.

Police said they were called to the incident at 7.45pm.

They said they were speaking to a person in relation to the death and were not seeking anyone else.

The owner of the A1 Kaikōura Motels and Caravan Park, Siana Wei, said the incident did not happen at her park and was shocked to hear of the news.

"Extremely shocking, extremely surprised because Kaikōura is very safe, it's such a small town I just don't think it's a place of crime."

Ms Wei said there were four holiday parks in the town.
