Mr Nii is missing, presumed dead, after crashing into the lake during a tandem skydive last week.

The blessing was performed by police kaumatua Herewini Neho.

Otago Lakes Central area commander Inspector Olaf Jensen said it was an honour to host the family during what is a tragic time for them.

Additional equipment had been brought in to assist with the search for Mr Nii.

The police national dive squad will set it up before testing the equipment tomorrow.
