The 71-year-old was assaulted at a Church Street address in Palmerston North in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The police said the woman was also the victim of an aggravated robbery in October last year. At the time, she was tied to a chair in her home before a man made away with her car and bank card.

They are now seeking sightings of a red hatchback Toyota Corolla with the registration plate EWG803.

The woman is being supported by her family and victim support.

A forensic examination is taking place at the scene.
