A post-mortem has revealed a Feilding farmer found dead on Thursday morning had gunshot wounds.
Manawatu police have launched a homicide inquiry.
Scott Grahame Guy, 31, a local dairy farmer, was discovered dead on his Aorangi Road driveway shortly after 7am on Thursday by a member of the public.
Police say the man's family and the local rural community are devastated by the killing. Mr Guy's wife is pregnant and he was the father of a two-year-old son.
Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger says the investigation is in its early stages, and she would like to hear from anyone who has seen suspicious behaviour in the area. The number to ring is 0800-808-585.
Forensic experts and 20 police will continue to examine the scene and surrounding areas over the next few days.
