The Civil Aviation Authority is launching an investigation into a microlight crash in Northland that has left two people dead - the pilot and a passenger.

Emergency services were called to Te Kopuru in the Kaipara District just after midday today.
Police said the scene was being examined by the Serious Crash Unit and the crash would be referred to the Civil Aviation Authority and the Coroner.
CAA spokesperson Mike Richards said the crash site would be secured overnight and two safety investigators from Wellington would be there tomorrow.
They would speak with emergency service personnel who were first on the scene before starting their physical investigation.
Mr Richards said it was too early to say what might have caused the crash.
The CAA would like to hear from anyone who might have witnessed it.
