Missing Fijian vessel found

A boat carrying nine people that went missing on Christmas Day near Fiji has been found.

This morning the New Zealand Defence Force was called on to look for the vessel.

The Defence Force deployed a P-3K2 Orion aircraft from Auckland. A Fijian Navy Patrol Vessel is also assisted in the search.

A spokesperson for the Defence Force said the boat ran out of fuel and washed ashore this morning.

The boat was on a return leg back to Tovu on Totoya Island, South-East of Fiji when it went missing.
