Hut warden killed in fall named

The Department of Conservation volunteer who died after falling at Mount Somers was 29-year-old Calvin Lim.

Mr Lim, who was from Christchurch, was reported overdue about 4.30pm on Friday.

His body was recovered around 10pm that night.

Mr Lim was a volunteer hut warden at Woolshed Creek Hut.

A helicopter was sent into the area to search for the man on Friday, and his body was found near Pinnacles Hut.

The Department of Conservation confirmed the man was a volunteer hut warden at Woolshed Creek Hut.

"He was excited about volunteering. DoC are devastated by this tragic loss of life and are focussing on support of his partner and family and returning the body as soon as possible," an earlier statement said.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
