Disproportionately high funding for some small schools is under review.
The Ministry of Education is reconsidering how composite schools, which have both primary and secondary students, are paid to provide specialist secondary subjects such as physical education, art and science.
The investigation is focused on 76 composite schools with fewer than 200 students, where funding is disproportionately high on a per student basis.
Documents from the ministry show that 19 more are expected to fall into that category, as kura kaupapa Maori apply to teach secondary students.
