Candidate bought Christmas ham on mayoral credit card

One of the leading candidates for the Auckland super-city mayoralty has admitted a further instance of using his council credit card for personal shopping.

Manukau City Mayor Len Brown says he bought a Christmas ham for his family after going shopping and finding that the mayoral card was the only one he had with him.

Mr Brown says he re-imbursed the council as part of almost $640 of personal spending on his mayoral card since being elected in 2007.

He says he has cut up his mayoral credit card even though all his spending was approved by council staff.

Mr Brown's campaign manager says he's disappointed Mr Banks has chosen to go negative with his campaign.

Conor Roberts says rates increases have been in line with inflation since Mr Brown has been mayor of Manukau City.
