Two skiers who had to shelter on Mount Aspiring overnight have been rescued by helicopter.
The Rescue Coordination Centre said the young men from Germany and Scotland were backcountry skiing on End Peak yesterday when snow closed in.
Worried about avalanches, they dug themselves down into the snow and waited for the morning to set off a personal locator beacon at 8am.
An alpine team located them within a couple of hours and they have been airlifted to safety.
The centre praised the pair for being well equipped and doing everything right.
