Assault allegation against off-duty police officer

11:42 am on 19 July 2017

Police are investigating a complaint against an off-duty Otago police officer over an assault early on Sunday morning.

The Otago Daily Times has reported a 25-year old woman has complained an officer wearing a wig at a fancy-dress party badly bruised her eye by smashing her face into a car bonnet and dragging her along the ground.

Southern district police said they were aware of the complaint, and have begun to investigate it.

They said any specific actions against the officer would be determined in the investigation.

And they said they took allegations against staff seriously, and such case were always thoroughly investigated.
