One person is dead and five others have been injured after a car crash in the Hutt Valley, near Wellington.
Police said a car and ute collided on State Highway 2 just north of Silverstream at about about 4am today.
One person in the car died, while another was flown to hospital in a critical condition.
Two more people in the car were injured - one seriously - and two people in the ute were also injured.
And in a separate incident a person has died after a car crash in the Far North.
It happened on Kaitaia-Awaroa Road, near Brass Road, in Ahipara at about 10.15pm yesterday.
The driver of the car, the sole occupant, died at the scene.
The accident is now being investigated.
