Police said he was arrested without incident at a house in Richmond this afternoon.

They earlier cordoned off an area in the suburb of Hope - around Bateup, Paton, Hart and Collins Roads - as they searched for him.

The police said he was likely to face firearms-related charges.

While they were searching for the man, they said they also arrested a 44-year-old man who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

They asked the public to avoid the cordoned-off area while they looked for the man in nearby properties.

Residents were asked to stay indoors.
