Police in south Auckland have sniffed out a couple of very expensive, very wrinkly, stolen bulldog puppies.

They said Māui and Alleycat were stolen from Gisborne about three weeks ago.

The five-month-old puppies, whose mother died giving birth to them, are worth well over $1000 each.

Police said an anonymous tip led them to Ōtara and Kawerau where search warrants were executed.

They said their elated owner could not wait to be reunited with her beloved pups.
