A man who accidentally shot his girlfriend while he was posing for photos with a gun will spend more than three years in jail.
Paul Goldstone, 21, previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter and unlawfully possessing a firearm. He was sentenced on Friday at the High Court in Auckland.
His partner, 20-year-old Samantha Henderson, had been taking the photos of him in Warkworth, north of Auckland, in December 2009 when he discharged a cut-down shotgun, which he was pointing at the camera.
On sentencing Goldstone, Justice Miller told him he was getting a kick out of pointing the gun.
He said Goldstone must have known the gun was loaded according to the photos on the camera's memory stick.
