The male driver of a car that fled police in Waikato this morning is in a critical condition after crashing into a parked police car.

The pursuit began in Hamilton shortly before 11am, when police tried to stop the driver of a car that had been reported stolen.
Police followed the car for 10 minutes and were about to deploy road spikes near the airport when the fleeing vehicle smashed into a stationary police car.
Police said the driver is in a critical codition and is currently being treated by paramedics.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised, while the Independent Police Conduct Authority will also be notified.
