Wellington police believe the same person could be responsible for two aggravated robberies at suburban service stations in the city on Wednesday.
The first robbery was at a Shell outlet in Constable Street, Newtown, at 5.20am. The second, just before 9am, was at a Caltex station in Broadway, near Wellington airport.
Police say that in both cases the offender lifted his shirt to show attendants what they believe was a tomahawk positioned across his waist.
Acting Detective Sergeant Andrew Compton says the offender is dark skinned and in his mid-20s.
He wore a black beanie and black cap, along with a red T-shirt and a long-sleeved grey jacket and baggy jeans.
He stole a total of scarcely $300.
