Bedside court sitting for murder accused

6:59 pm on 13 January 2009

A special court sitting has been held in Dunedin Hospital for a patient accused of attempted murder.

The charge stems from an incident in Fairfield on Sunday. Police arrived at an address to find the male accused and a 40-year-old woman suffering potentially life-threatening stab wounds.

At the district court hearing on Tuesday, the bedridden man had tubes in his nose, and a bandaged arm and hand were visible over the bedcovers.

Judge Emma Smith remanded him to reappear in court next Friday.

She granted him interim name suppression, and also suppressed the name of the woman he is accused of attempting to murder.

Both are in a stable condition.
