Drink-driving charge after five-car crash in South Auckland

Police have charged one person with excess breath alcohol and further charges may follow after a five-car crash in south Auckland last night.

Emergency services were called to an intersection in Flat Bush at about 8.30pm.

One person was taken to Middlemore hospital with critical injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

Meanwhile, there was a number of car crashes overnight.

In Auckland a person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries after a car flipped at 3.50am on Gilles Ave, in Epsom.

Two people have moderate to serious injuries after a car crashed into a pole on Wallace Road in Mangere Bridge at 2.35am.

Another car crashed into a pole on Naylor Street in Hamilton at 4.30am this morning.

The police said two people were taken to hospital - one was in a serious condition.

The driver was charged with excess breath alcohol.

And seven people have been injured in a two-car crash in Auckland at about 8am this morning.

Two people are in a serious condition and five have minor injuries after the crash on Grayson Avenue in Papatoetoe.

Part of the road is closed, and the police are investigating.
