A police car chase in Wellington early on Saturday has led to the detention of four people in relation to several violent incidents.
Police say a car being driven by two men was chased by officers for two minutes before being halted by the use of road spikes.
The incident began when a supermarket security guard was threatened by a man wielding a knife outside the store in the suburb of Johnsonville.
Police say the man was later spotted driving in Wellington and his vehicle was pursued until it was stopped by the use of road spikes.
After the chase, police detained a 21-year-old man, and later detained two other men and a woman, all in their early 20s.
Officers are speaking to all four about the Johnsonville incident, as well as an attack on a taxi driver in Mirimar in which cash was stolen and an attack on a man in Lower Hutt on Friday evening.
