Flurry of quakes hits Nelson Lakes

A cluster of earthquakes has struck St Arnaud in the early hours of this morning including a strong magnitude-4.6 shake felt by hundreds.

The quake, which happened at 4.13am, was centered 30km north-east of St Arnaud in Nelson Lakes at a depth of 7km

Since the there has been a rash of light and moderate shakes in the area, including a magnitude-4 quake before 5am and three others at around the magnitude-3 mark after the hour.
