A woman is calling for a no-car zone on Waiterere Beach after a vehicle drove into her fishing line and she was struck to the ground unconscious.
The incident on Friday left Moira Hurst of Wellington unable to remember her children's names for 24 hours. She also suffered bruises and lacerations.
She says the high volume of traffic at Waiterere Beach is likely to cause other accidents.
Police say charges are likely to result from the incident. Constable Ian Hamblyn says the car's registration and warrant of fitness had expired and the driver should have stopped.
But Horowhenua District Council says a speed restriction is already in place and the incident was not sufficient to warrant creating a car-free area.
