A four-year-old boy has been killed and his six-year-old brother seriously hurt when they were hit by a car which spun out of control on a Christchurch street.
Nayan Samuel Woods was walking with his mother and brother along Linwood Avenue at just after 5pm on Friday, when a car lost control in wet conditions and swerved onto the footpath, crashing into them.
The six-year-old suffered multiple fractures but is in a stable condition in Christchurch Hospital.
The Police say charges will be laid against the 17-year-old male driver.
The fatal crash was the second to involve a child on Friday.
A 10-year-old boy was been killed in a car accident near Hatfields Beach north of Auckland.
The police say the car he was in crossed the centre line, and collided with another car along the Hibiscus Coast highway just before 6pm.
They say the boy sustained serious injuries, and was given CPR for 25 minutes but died at the scene.
The boy's younger sibling was flown to hospital with serious injuries and their parents were admitted to hospital with moderate injuries.
