9:19 pm on 24 March 2017

Police have arrested a woman and a teenager after a serious assault put a man in an induced coma.

The man was found with a serious head injury outside the Sumner club about 10pm.

He was in an induced coma in a critical, but stable, condition after surgery, police said.

A 38-year-old woman would appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A 16-year-old was charged with burglary and being an accessory to the assault. He would appear in the Christchurch Youth Court tomorrow.

Police said more charges were likely.

Investigators did scene examinations several locations in Christchurch.

Detective Inspector Greg Murton said they were interested in hearing from anyone who saw a car or anything suspicious in the carpark on Sumner Main Road about 9.30pm to 10pm last night.

Mr Murton said they had tentatively identified the man.
