An 11-year-old girl is recovering in hospital after being stung by a stingray at a Wairarapa beach.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, took the girl from Riversdale Beach in the Wairarapa to Masterton Hospital on Friday afternoon.
She was able to get herself back onto the beach where surf life savers treated her injuries until the helicopter arrived.
A member of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew, Dave Greenberg, says the girl was playing in the water when she was stung.
He said she had a nasty laceration to her arm and one of her knees but she was in a stable condition.
