A cyclist is dead and another is seriously hurt in a crash with a truck at Pukaki in Canterbury.
The truck collided with the two cyclists on the Tekapo-Twizel road (State Highway 8), near the Mt Cook turnoff, about 6.20am.
One cyclist died at the scene while another, a man, was taken flown to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency services were at the scene and the Serious Crash Unit would be investigating.
Police asked motorists to avoid the area if possible as delays were expected.
